    • Truss and traditional, cut roof construction.
    • Strip and trench foundation.
    • Timber frame construction.
  • Architectural detailing including:
    • Site measurement survey.
    • Drawings for planning permission.
  • Preparation of solid modeling of components and products from 2D production drawings.
  • Custom AutoCAD AutoLISP programming including basic timber framing utility, standard metric fastener, item number, break-line, mass calculation and and auto-layering utility.

Senior Design Engineer, July 1996 - November 2000

In general the work undertaken whilst working in this position included:

  • Design of specific equipment to meet Bruce Anchor and customer requirements involving components ranging from large cast components and complex welded fabrications to small precision machined items and from concept to detailed production drawings.
  • Preparation of drawings and strength calculations for scrutiny by Classification Society surveyors to achieve Design Approval.
  • Design of welded structures to conform to BS EN 1011 and ANSI/AWS D1.1.
  • Project Planner and Lead Engineer on several large projects.
  • Creation and upkeep of drawings using AutoCAD (now release 2005) and calculations using MathCAD (now version 11).
  • Working closely with production personnel and manufacturing subcontractors to achieve products that are designed for manufacture.
  • Creation of custom utilities and programmes within AutoCAD using the AutoLISP programming language to undertake tedious, repetitive tasks.

Design Engineer, Sept 1992 – July 1996

In general the work undertaken whilst working in this position included: -

  • Working to planned programmes and deadlines as part of a project based design team interacting with the team members and members of other departments to achieve a common goal.
  • Working upon individual projects with which I had the budget responsibility.
  • Working to BS5750 and AQAP QA standards.
  • Answering customer and production technical enquiries as the first point-of-contact.
  • Participating in plant trials as a member of a trial team in a specialised, purpose built complex. This involved the drafting, checking and authorising of trials procedures, conducting the trials and analysing the results.
  • Writing and interpreting of technical specifications of components and systems, descriptions of equipment, components and plant, maintenance routines and operational instruction.
  • Conducting investigations and formulating solutions into plant operation difficulties including; galvanic and crevice corrosion and impact and cavitation erosion, effects of low sea water flow to services, marine growth in titanium heat exchangers and premature failure of equipment.
  • Maintenance of design definition of secondary system of nuclear steam raising plant including sea water cooling, sea water filtration systems and steam generator feed water transfer systems. The design definition in the main consists of system diagrams and a written technical description, operating instructions and equipment definitions.
  • Compilation of several plant trials and testing documentation and reporting of results. This was a contract specified deliverable to the Royal Navy.
